Dr. Bohl treats all bone, joint, tendon, ligament, muscle, nerve, and sports conditions below the knee. Here are a few examples.
Midwest Orthopaedics at RUSH
Bone Fractures
Including the tibia, fibula, ankle, malleolus, talus, calcaneus, navicular, cuboid, cuneiforms, metatarsals, and phalanges.
Ankle Arthritis
Ankle arthritis is debilitating. Bracing, medications, injections, and therapy can help. Surgical options include ankle scope, ankle replacement, and ankle fusion.
Ankle Sprains
An ankle sprain is a rupture of the anterior talofibular ligament (ATFL). We recommend prompt treatment and physical therapy to prevent recurrence.
Big Toe Arthritis
Arthritis of the foot is the result of aging. Orthotics and topical medications can help. Dr. Bohl commonly corrects foot arthritis with minor surgery.
Achilles Ruptures
Achilles tendon ruptures are common during middle age. Dr. Bohl treats Achilles ruptures with nonsurgical, open surgical, and minimally-invasive techniques.
Morton’s Neuroma
Morton’s neuroma causes pain and numbness in the toes. Treatments include orthotics, anti-inflammatories, steroid injection, and surgical removal.
Peroneal Tears
Peroneal tendon tears are often from old injuries. We recommend use of a boot or brace and anti-inflammatories. If this fails, surgical reconstruction has excellent results.
Hammertoes
Hammertoes cause difficulty with shoe wear, calluses, ulceration, and pain. Dr. Bohl straightens hammertoes with a proven, durable technique.
Osteochondral Defect
Osteochondral defects of the talus are the products of old ankle injuries. MRI is required for diagnosis. Surgical correction is minimally invasive through a scope.
Achilles Tendonitis
Achilles tendonitis causes pain in the back of the heel. Stretching and therapy are critical nonsurgical treatments. Surgery involves reconstructing the diseased tendon.
Ankle Instability
Recurrent ankle sprains result in degeneration of the anterior talofibular ligament (ATFL), leading to more ankle sprains. Dr. Bohl reconstructs the ATFL to restore stability.
Sesamoiditis
When fractured or inflamed, the sesamoid bones cause pain on the bottom of the forefoot. Orthotics help by unloading pressure. Sesamoidectomy and repair provide definitive relief.
High Arch Foot
High arch foot (cavovarus) is caused by muscular imbalance. Specific orthotics can compensate. If this is insufficient, Dr. Bohl can surgically flatten and rebalance the arch.
Masses and Cysts
Most lumps and bumps in the foot and ankle are benign, but Dr. Bohl takes each one seriously. He will order an MRI for diagnosis. If you want it removed, he will excise it safely.
Tarsal Coalition
A tarsal coalition is an abnormal connection between the talus, calcaneus, and/or navicular bones, causing stiffness, pain, and recurrent injury.
Plantar Fasciitis
Plantar fasciitis is the most common cause of heel pain. Treatment is mostly nonsurgical, including immobilization in a boot, anti-inflammatory medications, calf stretching, physical therapy, and steroid and platelet rich plasma injections. There are two surgical options, including plantar fascia release and gastrocnemius lengthening.
